  • BF Slag is the by-product from controlled processof  Iron Production, which results in a very uniform composition from source. Where as quality of Fly Ash collected from ESP  varied widely.

PCS Sustainable Material :-
  •  Replacing the Portland cement by Slag helps in reducing Co, emissions and conserving non-renewable resources of lime stone.
  • Use of Slag in concrete is recognised by LEED ( Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) and add points towards its certification. The high volume Slag concrete system is environment friendly and the concrete so produced also demonstrates the attributes of high performance concrete (HPC).
Advantages :-
  • Reduction in heat of hydration and minimization of thermal cracks. Permeability and surplus lime liberated during the hydration of Portland cement are the root causes for deleterious effect on the concrete. Absorption of surplus lime released out of OPC to form in to secondary hydrated mineralogy.hydrated mineralogy, thus contributing for impermeability and enrichment of Transition zones.  Impermeability is the foremost mechanism for making the concrete more durable and is best achieved by using Slag cement. Since the specific gravity of PSC is less than OPC, more construction area can be covered per unit of cement consumption. IS 456:2000 recommends addition of more than 50% slag where chloride is encountered along with Sulphates in place of SRC.
Applications:- 
  • Slag is used to make durable concrete structures in combination with Ordinary Portland Cement and/or other pozzolanic materials. To improve the durability of structures,usage of Slag along with OPC in concrete is recommended in BS 6699:1986, ASTM C989:1982, IS 456:2000 and Slag to OPC in the range of 25-70% shall be added to manufacture Portland Stag Cement as IS 455:1989. 
Ehanced Durability
  • Improved resistance to Sulphate attack due to reduction of Ca 10H12 and lower C3A content  Due to reduced diffusion of Chloride ions, resistance to corrosion is improved 
PSC
    • Portland Slag Cement is a blended cement. At JSW cement, we use superior quality Slag produced from our steel plant which conform to 15:12089 to produce PSC. Slag is a non metallic product consisting essentially of glass containing silicates and Alumino silicates of lime. The slag contains more than 90% glass.

Ramco Super Fast cement in precast blocks gives many advantages such as structural stability, strength, fire resistance, thermal insulation, sound absorption, reducing efflorescence, lesser cracks due to thermal effect between RCC and the wall, as well as durability. 
      • Selection of materials for making blocks :- for making precast blocks, ramco super fast cement, sand, smaller size aggregates ( preferably less than 10mm) should be selected .Ramco super fast cement offers consistent quality with a fast rate of gain of strength. aggregates should be graded properly based on IS 383. water used should be good quality, free from impurities and must be potable. it must be ensured that there is no silt or any foreign material in the river sand used for casting precast blocks.
      • Right kind of mixers for mixing constituents :- Generally for producing mansonry concrete for hollow/solid blocks , pan mixers with two rollers are used for easy and efficient mixing. Pan mixers are generally found to have better mixing efficieny than drum mixers or hand mixing.
      • Condition of concrete for maing blocks:- concrete used for making blocks must be slighly wet i.e just enough to well all the ingredients. the concrete must not be too dry or too wet.  concrete which is too dry or too wet could result in edge breakages.
      • Transporttaion of concrete for making blocks:-the concrete should be transported by wheel barrows to the block making machine. transporting concrete from mixing machine must be as quick as possible . notn much time should be lost during transportation
      • Block Making Machine :- Ensure that the block making machine is capable of giving adequate number of vibrations. block making machine should be maintained through professsionally tranied service technicians.
      • Adequate vibration and compaction :- The concrete hsould be filled in the block moulds and vibrated properly. proper vibration and compaction will enhance the density of blocks which ultimately makes it stronger. whether blocks or tiles the machine should be designed to give the required amount of compactation.
      • Curing :- Codal provisions recommend regular curing of blocks. Inadequate curing may result in breakage of blocks. Curing tank inside the precast unit will ensure proper curing

      Concrete using Supercrete enables a concrete technologist to make a high performance concrete.
      • High Compressive strength in Concrete : Using Supercrete enables you to make a concrete with high compressive strength . Even though it’s a blended cement it has the compressive strength of an OPC 53 grade cement. It was observed that even in normal sites using nominal mix proportions 28 day compressive strength of concrete was obtained within 7 days say for example normal concrete at site in rural areas using nominal mix proportions of 1:1.5:3 ( Cement: sand:coarse aggregate) were able to get more than 20 MPa within 7 days . This high rate of gain of compressive strength can be used to get economical mix ( wherever mix design is done) or to remove the formwork at the earliest ( after checking the concrete cube strength to ensure that the concrete has gained the required compressive strength)
      • High workability : Supercrete being a blended cement and using the highest quality pozzolanic material gives a concrete with high workability for the same water cement ratio as compared to other cement brands or types.
      • High durability : By virtue of low heat of hydration in supercrete , concrete is resistant to cracks. The durability as measured by RCPT is less than 2000 coulombs . This is because concrete using Supercrete has a cement paste which is impermeable and dense.

      • Maha – Portland Pozzolana Cement (PPC) is premium blended cement manufactured by inter-grinding the high quality clinker with superfine processed fly ash. The clinker used here is specially made with high percentage of Tricalcium Silicate C3S (58-60%). Only high quality fly ash from select chambers of Electrostatic Precipitators (ESPs) are extracted and transported in closed bulkers is used to manufacture Maha Cement. Clinker and fly ash with desired proportion of gypsum is inter-ground in high efficiency closed circuit Ball Mills. The “O-Sepa”and SKS separators used in the mills enable us to maintain high fineness (about 350 m2/kg) and good particle size distribution (PSD). Maha Cement thus manufactured surpasses the compressive strength requirement of OPC 53 grade at 3, 7 and 28 days while enabling you to get excellent durability in concrete.
